Volunteer and Donate
If you want to
aid Afghan refugees who are arriving to Canada (by donating your time,
clothing, furniture, or money), IRCC has these suggestions:
a.
To contact Canadian refugee resettlement organizations
that are assisting Afghan refugees, send an email to
afghaniresettlement@ccislive.ca.
b.
Make contact with a local service provider. These are
non-profit organizations whose mission is to assist newcomers to Canada.
Sponsor an Afghan Refugee
Canadians have
been permitted to sponsor refugees to come to Canada since 1978. You can
proceed with the sponsorship process in a number of ways:
a.
Working with a Sponsorship Agreement Holder is an
option (SAH). These are organizations that have signed agreements with IRCC to
bring refugees to the United States for resettlement.
b.
as a five-person group This is a group of at least
five Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents who have pledged to sponsor
refugees.
Family sponsorship
The IRCC has
announced that applications for family class sponsorship for Canadian citizens
and permanent residents seeking to bring their loved ones from Afghanistan will
be prioritized. Sponsoring your spouse, partner, or dependent children, parents
and grandparents, or orphaned relatives under the age of 18 falls under this
category.
Special programs for Afghans
Canada has
committed to resettling 20,000 Afghans in need through the following
programmes:
a.
an unique immigration scheme that aided the Canadian
government for Afghans and their families.
b.
a special humanitarian programme that will resettle
Afghans abroad who do not have a stable third country to go to, such as women
leaders, human rights advocates, LGBTI people, journalists and people who
assisted Canadian journalists, their immediate families, and extended family
members of previously resettled interpreters who assisted the Canadian
government.
You do not have
to live in Afghanistan to be eligible for these unique programmes, according to
